The picturesque island of Amorgos is the easternmost island in the Cyclades and is located to the southeast of Naxos. It is a small island with under 2000 residents and comprises of a mountainous setting with various stunning beaches found along the coastline. Amorgos is a very authentic island and one that has maintained it's charm traditions throughout the years. It was this natural beauty and amazing landscape that inspired French director Luc Besson to make the movie "The Deep Blue" here, with much of the movie shot on the beach of Agia Anna.

You can find a number of lovely beaches on Amorgos where you can swim in the crystal blue waters of the Aegean during those hot summer afternoons. As well as Agia Anna, some of the other popular beaches on the island include Agios Pavlos, Kambi, Foinikies and Kalotaritissa.

During the off-season you may find a number of beaches that are completely empty, providing you with your own private beach. Some of the beaches on Amorgos can only be reached by foot, so if you are planning on heading to such beaches, make sure you have some sensible footwear with you.

In addition to the gorgeous beaches, the island of Amorgos is ideal for those who love nature and outdoor activities. The landscape of Amorgos make it a wonderful island to explore on foot, and you can enjoy some wonderful walks along the hiking trails you will find.

One of the main highlights of Amorgos is the famous Monastery of Hozoviotissa which was built on the slopes of a huge rock from which you can enjoy some breathtaking views. The town of Chora is a part of the island that all visitors will pass through, and here you can enjoy walking around and finding a nice place to enjoy a meal or drink. Some of the other villages on the island you should try and visit include Lagada, Aegiali and Katapola. Each has it's own charm and beauty and offers you an authentic Greek island experience.
